This is a list of our most Frequently Asked Questions. If you do not see the answer to your question please feel free to Contact Us.
Q. Can I drive over it?
A. SESC products should never be driven over unless absolutely necessary. Lets not
forget, vehicles track dirt and sediment into streets.
When absolutely necessary, SiltShield's® patented technology will stand up to vehicles
and with proper execution repairs will be limited and the reusability percentage
will increase.
Q. What are the prices and is it cost effective?
A. SiltShield® is design specifically to reduce labor costs. On many construction
sites, traditional silt fence is replaced many times during construction. Old
fashion silt fence is relatively cheap, but when you add up the labor cost to
reinstall it 3,4,5,6, times it becomes very expensive. I would also presume, that
the damaged silt fence does not get removed and disposed of for free!

Q. How is Siltshield® installed?
A. Remove dirt from the back of curb; place SiltShield® flat on back of curb. Backfill and compact like traditional silt fence. When installing off of curb; SiltShield® is installed the same as traditional silt fence.
Q. Is there a front and a back?
A. Yes… the smaller holes face the street or down hill.
Q. Is there a top and a bottom?
A. SiltShield® is manufactured with rows of holes through it.
Click here for diagrams and more information!. These holes, start 6 inches from one side and 8 inches from the other. The first row of holes line up with the top of the curb or, when trenched even with the top of grade. Depending on how high you want your SiltShield out of the ground will determine the top and bottom.
Q. What's with the frog?
A. Frogs are natures natural environmental Bio-indicators. Froggy feels SiltShield® is the best SESC product available today. With the goal of keeping our storm water free of sediment and other pollutants, thus protecting our precious frogs. That is why we choose Froggy as our mascot. Froggy is a constant reminder why proper SESC measures are important.
Q. What are bio-indicators?
A. Freshwater bio-indicators are animals and plants that can be used to determine
the state of health of freshwater habitats. Some creatures are very sensitive
to water-borne pollutants while others less so. Changes in the abundance and
diversity of these animals can be used as a measuring tool to determine water
quality. Bio-indicator
organisms typically live in freshwater and so are subject to the changes in
pollutant load.. Water pollution causes changes in frog abundance and behavior.
The general principle holds true - if there are plenty of frogs present
at a freshwater site, the water quality is likely to be good; if frogs are
absent
or scarce, be wary of the water, they probably don't use SiltShield®
in that area.
